Augmented reality (AR) is being touted as the future of learning. It gives the user a truly immersive and fun experience that also provides access to opportunities to see things that the average human doesn’t usually get to see.
The futuristic technology is already being used to train surgeons, tackle dementia and is also transforming the world of gaming and media.
Hologo is an app made for keen students of all ages, from primary school children to university students and anyone else with a thirst for knowledge.
The app, created by Maldives-based Hologo World, provides a unique and immersive educational experience from anywhere. It allows the user to look through the lens of the device into the real world and get projections of lifelike virtual images and animations customised for learning.
The AR outfit was founded by Eedham Rasheed in 2017 and houses a largely Maldivian team.
With the suit, you can walk up to and around the educational AR models, zoom in and break apart objects, and dive deep into the models.
Users are able to visit the Great Wall of China, check out an international space station or delve deep into the inner workings of the human eye.
Hologo’s extensive library of AR experiences are grouped into seven categories; journeys, biology, chemistry, geography, mathematics, physics and animals.
The app is particularly useful in the areas of biology and physics, where the AR objects come with spoken soundtracks.
For example, it is not immediately obvious how a DC motor works by merely looking at it in a textbook, even if the illustration has useful labels highlighting what’s what. With Hologo, the experience is brought to life with the voiceover of an expert, explaining as you explore.
Hologo also lets you reposition and move the models around—handy if the app pops them in a place that isn’t ideal.
Additionally, teachers are able to network with students and record lessons over the AR experiences.
While the app is still relatively young, the library of AR models and experiences are substantial. It covers incredibly useful topics—such as the circulatory system and the solar system—with the creators planning to add more immersive experiences in September.

The Hologo education app is the second application developed by Hologo World under its digital education initiative. Previously the company had successfully launched Teaching Tube in 2017, one of the largest online platforms for general high school, Cambridge, Edexcel, CBSE and ICSE educational resources.
