Vital Technologies: Biohacking Alcohol to Help You Avoid a Hangover

Vital Technologies, an Israel-based life-science and supplements startup, has developed the first scientific and technology-driven solution to the side effects of alcohol drinking.

Founded in 2014, Vital Technologies wants to create “new and disruptive” health and wellness products to help “daily distress episodes,” as stated on the company’s website. CUUR Bedtime Recovery is the company’s first product—a beverage designed with with amino acids, electrolytes, botanicals and vitamins to help its users lessen the effects of alcohol.

Compared to other alcohol recovery products, CUUR was created after almost a decade of scientific and pharmaceutical research, 27 human trials and thousands of subjects between the US and Israel. The drink helps healthy consumers to quickly recover from occasional episodes of cognitive and physiological stress after consuming alcohol, such as headaches, nausea, dizziness and stomach pain.

Vital Technologies has worked to make CUUR into a consumer-friendly product. According to CEO Amir Barzilay, other similar products tend to be unpleasant-tasting and unrealistic, whereas CUUR is a product that its users can easily use to recovery from alcohol consumption.

“Botanicals, vitamins, and minerals are mostly foul-tasting and unpalatable, even at low dosing levels,” Amir explained, as reported by Tech Bullion. “That’s why most of the supplements consumers are familiar with, come in capsules, tablets, and soft gels. The problem is that an effective formulation to combat and prevent post-alcohol symptoms requires dozens of pills in one sitting, something no consumer can comply with. Our CUUR solution gives all this to you in one single, tasty functional beverage which also amplifies the bioavailability of these powerful natural actives.”

CUUR Bedtime Recovery is meant to be taken with a glass of water within an hour of the last drink. The product helps to both counter the effects of alcohol and improve quality of sleep.

Vital Technologies has plans to release a version to be consumed during the day, called CUUR Daytime Recovery. This will be developed for people who have consumed alcohol between noon and early evening, before bedtime. The product will be formulated to increase energy, focus, and metabolism to help consumers stay active during the day.

The company has raised $8 million in funding from private investors so far to further its research and development, production and marketing.
