DUX Has Merged Its Luxury Beds With IoT to Put Alexa Under Your Mattress

Reports of the ever-presence of Alexa have been rife at CES 2020. Now it seems you can have the Amazon assistant in bed with you—or rather embedded into your bed—for around $5k.

If you were wondering where Alexa, Amazon’s omnipotent assistant, would pop up next, look no further than Duxiana/DUX, a Swedish maker of luxury beds.

The company launched its new “DUX Element” bed at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this week in the Amazon booth. It takes all of the brand’s bougie designs and conceals an Alexa speaker underneath to sneak some AI into your bedroom to guide you off to sleep.

The smart bed features an installed Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled speaker created by luxury speaker brand stellé and the Amazon compatible “DUX Smart Module.”

Through the system, users can manage their bedtime routine from under the covers with access to their home’s IoT components that are synced with Amazon Alexa—enabling them to play music and create a dreamy bedtime ambience.

With the DUX App, users can create automated environment settings that sync with other IoT devices in their smart homes—for example, an “evening environment” triggered to launch at 8pm nightly where sleep sounds play, motion sensor lights activate to illuminate the path to the bed, smart shades go down and the home’s thermostat adjusts to the preferred sleeping temperature.

The app supports numerous smart home products including the Molekule Air Purifier, the iRobot Roomba and Philips Hue smart lights.

“Too often tech is a distraction at bedtime, but with the launch of our bed that has Alexa built into it, we’re changing that,” said Ed Curry, president of Dux North America. “Our goal is to combine our expertise in sleep science with voice-activated technology that delivers seamless—and effortless—bedtime routines.”

Dux says that their beds are hand-crafted to provide unparalleled sleeping conditions and are based on decades of research and testing.

The company hopes that the merge of its “high-performance sleeping system” (super comfortable beds) with smart home technology will enable users to create the ultimate sleeping environment.

“The DUX Bed is the heart of the bedroom,” continued Curry. “It makes sense that it is now also the hub of the bedroom, where our customers can extend the luxury and comfort that DUX is known for to the rest of their room by automating their preferred ambiences.”

The DUX Element will be available in queen, king and California king size online and in Duxiana stores throughout the US from May this year.

However, those hoping to have a high-tech snooze, be warned—a king-size version will set you back a hefty $4,950.
