Sculpd — the Startup Making Pottery Accessible During Lockdown

If there is one positive thing to come out of lockdown, aside from saving lives, it’s creativity. Quarantine creations are being shared on social media from all over the world, from poetry to painting to pottery.

Set up by an arty bunch of mates — Matt Clements, Giles Harrison and Guy Vero — who were getting itchy fingers during the beginning of lockdown in March, Sculpd delivers at home pottery kits with the aim of inspiring lockdown creativity and an outlet to help clear your mind with the power of clay during the pandemic.

“Creating with clay is a complete sensory experience that relaxes the mind by disconnecting our thoughts with the exterior, allowing us to focus only on the material in our hands,” says Sculpd.

Since launching Sculpd has become a hit with young creators, with product features in Stylist Magazine’s ‘Stylist Loves’ and Timeout’s best craft kits.

A Sculpd kit provides everything you need to sculpt, carve, paint and seal your own handcrafted creations. It also includes a step-by-step guide to help you master basic pottery techniques.

Sculpd clay is air-drying, so there is no need for a kiln!

“Your beautiful clay creations can be crafted, painted, and ready for their Instagram shoot after just 24 hours,” the company says.

Business has been thriving so the three founders decided to use it to help raise money for the NHS by donating £4 from every Sculpd Kit.

“We raised £2240 for the NHS in our first month and since then we have had some fantastic customer stories, seen some truly unique creations and have started the growing trend to swap the quiz for a lockdown clay party on Zoom! We are seeing a cult of creativity building during this lockdown period and you can see it in.”
